Patients and Caregivers - Joint Replacement

Mary Chamberlain

Golfing, walking three miles a day and playing basketball were part of Mary Chamberlain's normal activities. A year after Mary's radiation treatment for cancer, her hip became increasingly painful.

Mary suffered with joint pain for five years, eventually giving up every activity she enjoyed. Mary spoke with several people who had joint replacement and finally spoke to her family physician who recommended that she see an orthopedic surgeon.

Mary saw an orthopedic surgeon who recommended total hip replacement. "Dr. Gomez explained everything and insisted I would play golf again," said Mary.

"As a cancer survivor and hip replacement patient, I feel good, very good. The leg lifts, knee bends and walking I did for physical therapy assisted in my recovery. Even my friends were amazed how well I did. I have had no problems and feel like I turned back the hands of time."

Mary remarks, "It took six to eight weeks before I felt healthy enough to return to my daily activities. I am completely pain free and walk two miles each day, golf and still do all the exercises I did after surgery. I am considering taking tennis lessons; that is how great I feel. Thanks to your company and my great doctor."
