Indications:
  • Primary osteoarthritis of patello/femoral joint 5
  • Posttraumatic osteoarthritis secondary to patella fracture 6,7
  • Recurrent patella subluxation/dislocation 7
  • Anterior knee pain 1-7
  • Chondrocalcinosis of patello/femoral joint 4
  • Chondromalacia 8
  • Failure of conservative treatment 7

Contraindications:
  • Patella baja 4
  • Tibio/femoral osteoarthritis 2

Biomet Custom Patellofemoral Implant Design Rationale:
  • Little or no loss of underlying bone = easy revision to TKR
  • Maximum coverage of contact between patella and femur throughout range of motion1
  • Relatively simple and quick procedure (60-75 minutes)

Additional Information:
  • Partial synovectomy required
  • Lateral release may be required
