Gleich LL, Rebeiz EE, Pankratov MM, Shapshay SM. Autologous fibrin tissue adhesive in endoscopic sinus surgery. Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg 1995;112(2):238-41.
Summary: In a controlled clinical trial, 12 patients undergoing bilateral endoscopic sinus surgery received autologous fibrin tissue adhesive application on one side and traditional packing on the other side. The use of fibrin tissue adhesive instead of packing provided hemostasis, decreased crusting, accelerated mucosal healing, diminished synechia, eliminated packing, and increased the sensation of nasal airway patency, leading to a high degree of satisfaction in all patients.
Quotation: “The application of autologous fibrin tissue adhesive during endoscopic sinus surgery resulted in a high degree of patient satisfaction and facilitate healing of the treated sinuses without added morbidity.”
